Call of Bethlehem

When I thought about writing my first Christmas song, I felt out of my territory a bit. I had recently spent a week at a Songwriter's Expo in Colorado and on my drive home, I was completely blown away by the sunset. Driving south through Southern Utah back to the desert, it was a thick, warm, gold, shining spotlight on the entire valley. I called my Grandma and we were talking about the elements of the Christmas story that stood out to us. Also, coming home from the expo, feeling inspired and thinking about what it means for me to be gifted with songwriting and singing, I know I'm a messenger. I'm called to remember and to share God's first and greatest call for all His people: to come into the light. Come into the light and realize that He is all we need. I felt Him giving me this message that night and as I continued writing it, I could feel Him speaking. His ending tone in this message was not soft. “Show me another King who loves you more than me,” there was a strong, challenging essence about it. I realized I had the chorus to my Christmas song.

In the Christmas story, the wisemen were the first of the time to answer and follow the call of Bethlehem. They followed the star to find newly born Jesus in the humble manger. Such as the heart and character of God, Jesus was so accessible. The idea that everyone had at the time of who the Messiah would be, was trumped by the humble nature of who God was and is. The vulnerable, pure, innocence of a baby, and the all-powerful, humble, deeply loving King of the Heavens and Earth – all at once.

Connecting myself to the story of Jesus' birth, reminded me that the call is the same and just as important today. It's vitally important for each and every one of God's creations to understand that they are His and He sees them covered in His golden light. The call is for us to choose to see that and walk into the light. Choose to see the good in yourself instead of the bad and over time, that will be more of your reality. God is already the victor over your wars and the first to triumph when you thrive. Remember who you are and where you came from.

Merry Christmas!

"Call of Bethlehem"

One desert star, the call of Bethlehem,

The wisemen walked the land.

And the angels sang a song of joy,

for the great I am.

Emmanuel, Emmanuel.

Come into the light, every son and daughter, realize your father,

Understand that all you need in life, is everything I am.

Show me another King, who loves you more than me.

Who loves you more?

Our humble redeemer, a baby in a manger,

the savior of the world.

And the wisemen were the first to hear

the call of Bethlehem.

Emmanuel, Emmanuel.

Come into the light, every son and daughter, realize your father,

Understand that all you need in life, is everything I am.

Show me another King, who loves you more than me.

Show me, show me, show me another king---

who loves you more.

Show me another king, who loves you more than me?
